Learn about Yoga
Do you want to know a little more about yoga? Good for you! And you’re lucky because you’ve come to the right place.
You’re about to learn a brief history of yoga and you’re also about to discover a little bit about the most popular form of Yoga in the Western World – Hatha yoga.
So, if you’re ready… let’s get started with your learning…
The History of Yoga
It’s debatable about when yoga actually came into existence. No one actually knows for sure because much of what early yoga is about was handed down through oral traditions. However, all experts agree that yoga is at least 3000 years old. Some experts claim that yoga is at least 5000 years old and others even claim they have proof that yoga existed over 10,000 years ago! It’s safe to say that yoga has been around for a very long time.
But the actual age of yoga really doesn’t matter. Yoga is very old and it has withstood the test of time. Yoga has proven over the many centuries that it is good for people and should be practiced by anyone who is interested in being happier, more relaxed, and more focused. Who wouldn’t want those three things in their life?
Throughout the centuries yoga has evolved as people have put their own spin on how yoga should be performed. At this time, in the Western world, people mostly practice Hatha yoga. This is probably the type of yoga that you’re familiar with.
Let’s take a closer look at this type of yoga.

Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga is the type of yoga that most people are familiar with. This is the type of yoga that is by far the most popular in the Western world. Hatha literally translates to the sun and the moon. “Ha” means sun and “tha” means moon. The two together are meant to signify everything coming together. Therefore, Hatha yoga is all about the mind, the body, and the spirit all coming together. That is the entire purpose of Hatha yoga. Today Hatha mostly focuses on yoga postures in order to attain the goal of mind, body, and spirit coming together. However, there are other practices that can be used and were used more in the past. These are breathing, body gestures, and internal cleansing of the body. All these practices are supposed to activate energies within the body. But again, the modern form of Hatha yoga doesn’t usually use all of these practices. When compared to the other types of yoga, Hatha yoga is actually a very new form of yoga. Yoga itself stretches back far into history. It is anywhere from 3000 to 10,000 years old. But the origins of Hatha yoga are only about 500 years old. And Hatha yoga didn’t gain any popularity until the 1920s when it began to be practiced in India.
Yoga Benefits Overview
The Benefits of Yoga
The first major benefit of yoga is that it increases flexibility. If a person regularly practices yoga then that person will slowly become more flexible. All the muscles in the body will become more flexible and this will help the person move better and will also make injury less likely. Even the joints in the body are helped and become more flexible.
Another benefit of yoga is that it’s been found to provide more lubrication to joints, ligaments, and tendons. As surprising as this might sound; it’s absolutely true. People who are stiff before yoga become more flexible. Even parts of the body that aren’t worked on with yoga become looser and more flexible. This is because yoga actually helps lubricate all the joints, ligaments, and tendons throughout the body.
One of the greatest benefits of yoga (that many people don’t even realize) is the inner strength and happiness that yoga gives you. Yoga also helps you learn to focus extremely well. In fact, you’ll begin to focus better than just about everyone you know. Finally, yoga will help you deal with stress. Not only will you feel less stress in your everyday life but you will learn to deal with stressful situations better than you ever thought possible.
All of this adds up to yoga making your life much better. You will be more successful in life and you will be more successful with life. In other words, you’ll also feel better just because you’ll have an inner peace and an inner happiness. But you’ll also have a better life because you’ll have the tools you need to be successful at whatever you want to do and whatever you want to accomplish in life.

How to Begin Yoga
It’s very simple to learn a few yoga moves and to practice them. But if you really want to do yoga then you’re going to need to be instructed.
You can actually discover a few great yoga poses by visiting any number of yoga Websites. This will give you an idea for what yoga is all about. But, again, if you really want the full benefits from yoga then you’re going to have to find some type of instruction.
If you live in a decent sized city then you should definitely be able to find yoga classes. Depending on the place that’s offering the classes, this could be just average all the way up to incredible.
For example, you might go to the local YMCA and take a yoga class from a physical education teacher who just watched a couple videos about yoga. Or you might be able to go to an actual yoga center will you can enroll in classes taught by a certified yoga instructor. However, there are some very good yoga classes in places (even the YMCA) that you would never guess would be so great. So don’t just assume some place wouldn’t be good to attend yoga classes at.
If you don’t have any yoga classes offered near you, you can find yoga sessions right on the Internet. That’s right! There are many great sessions that you can do from the comfort of your home anytime day or night.
