Afterwhich, the gum resin undergoes the steam distillation process to produce the oil needed for aromatherapy.

The oleo gum resin can yield between 3 to 10 percent volatile oil. It can also produce an absolute, which are then used mainly as a fixative. The oil itself produces a balsamic, fruity, and a bit spicy aroma. It is light yellow in color with very permeable consistency.
