Fasting can change your Life
Fasting has several definitions however; true fasting involves abstaining from all food and beverages except for water. There are other definitions which include juice fasts, or abstaining from certain foods. These do not have the same benefit value as a true fast. They can, however, be helpful to those who need assistance before being able to do a true fast.
True fasts can be difficult for individuals who are used to high concentrations of processed foods. In such cases it is best to start out slowly by lowering the amounts of foods, abstaining from certain foods and then moving on to the intake of juice only before moving on to a true fast. This will help to prevent shock to the body, which could cause it to enter a survival phase where it will store anything it brings in.
Fasting helps in detoxification of your body
While there are several reasons to fast, the primary reason is to aid in the detoxification of the body. Fasting causes the body to use its reserve stores, in other words fasting requires the body to use the fat that is stored in the system. This is the primary purpose for layers of fat in the body. Unfortunately, due to the large amounts of processed foods, stress and other environmental factors, a large number of toxins also get stored within these deposits. These toxins poison the system and cause poor health.
Fasting results in the release of these toxins so that they can be eliminated from the body. Fasting also, if done properly, can be an effective weight management tool. While the benefits of fasting primarily are the detoxification of the body, with the true fast only water is taken into the body. Water has a significant impact on the up body's ability to detoxify itself.
As fasting helps to release the stored toxins within the body, it is necessary to flush those toxins from the system in order to prevent them from being restored back into the body. By taking in only water, these toxins are easily flushed from the system. This process can be difficult for some people, especially those who are used to large amounts of processed foods. As a result, it is beneficial for these individuals to start with milder forms of fasting before going to a true or water only fast.
Regular fasting is possible, and in some cultures considered to be a healthy practice. Short fasts usually last one to two days and can be done on a regular basis. It is important, however to space these out with a significant amount of time in order to prevent the body from viewing the fast as a danger rather than a helping activity. If you are planning to fast longer than two days, it is important to do so under the supervision of a medical practitioner. There are also long term fasts, which may last up to 30 days and some that may last even longer. These are usually only done in instances of severe chronic illness and should only be done under the supervision of trained professionals.
In order to aid the fasting's detoxification affects, there are a number of activities, which are encouraged during the fasting. These activities include exercise, meditation, activities such as tai chi or yoga or Pilates, as well as colonics and other detoxification or purification regiments.
Benefits of Fasting
There have been reports that fasting can help in a number of common ailments such as high blood pressure, headaches, allergies and inflammatory conditions. Even psychological problems and lack of energy can be resolved through fasting. Fasting is also one way to help in the relief of side effects from medications. There are a number of medications used to treat illnesses, which build up within the system and over long periods of time can have toxic effects. Fasting can assist in maintaining the effectiveness of necessary medications, while preventing those medications from causing toxic buildup within the system.
While the benefits of fasting are widespread, it is important to discuss fasting with your primary care physician, many of which may be able to provide the supervision necessary in order to maintain proper health during a fast. Another benefit of fasting is the body is better able to handle stress overall. This in turn helps to increase the body's resistance to a number of stress-induced effects.
Fasting just one day out of every month can help to have a significant affect on the body. In fact, some studies have reported that people who fast just one day out of a month were approximately forty percent less likely to experience issues with clogged arteries. Fasting can also have a significant effect on the mood of a person. Doing a fast on a day when you are feeling a little off perhaps, less energetic, tired, or just feeling down. Simple avoid eating during that day, drink plenty of water and rest doing activities, which do not requires extensive physical activity. You will most likely find that the next day the feeling is gone and you are back to being yourself.
Fasting may seem difficult at first, in fact for many who are used to just getting up and eating whenever they want or snacking during a movie or while they are working it may seem impossible. However, if you take the time and really focus you will be surprised at the benefits you see. Fasting helps to detoxify the body, it helps the body to become resistant to stressing factors, it even helps to control and manage weight. If a true water-only fast is too harsh for you try working up to it. The idea is to find the benefits and enjoyment of fasting.

Interesting hub. Have been toying with the idea of fasting for some time, but haven't got around to it. I knew it was good for many complaints and your information has reinforced this. Thanks.
